im not going to fight you on this

Sources on these dates? They seem arbitrary. Was the question of how ā€œpresent dayā€ is meant to be interpreted ever raised in an interview with Bungie?

the source on Destiny taking place in roughly 2700 reinforced in lore by use of the vague ā€œcenturiesā€ to describe both the timespan of the Golden Age and the period post Collapse centuries meaning 300 and 400 give or take.

the source of the 2700 date is an old IGN article which, why would they say anything so specific that Bungie didnt tell them explicitly.

If the Collapse and subsequent Dark Age lasted for over four hundred years (ref King of the Mountain), and the Traveler arrived in the 21st century and we take that to mean its release date in 2014, then the Golden Age lasted approximately three hundred years.

When the Ghost actives the gondola, he said it hadnā€™t been used in over 400 years. And since the Iron Lords used that mountain as a base, they could have used it as well. So that could mean 400 years from Rise of Iron plus a few more centuries for the Golden Age to end could add up to near a 1000.

Just because the gondola hasnā€™t been used doesnā€™t mean the iron lords havenā€™t been on the mountain for 400 years. There is no indication that they used the gondola system

But we also canā€™t deny that chance they did use it.

Why would they expose themselves to sniper fire? Thatā€™s a tempting target for Fallen. Right in the story mission a Ketch shoots at the gondola and we bail out.

Back then they didnā€™t have jumpships like the City does. And the trek up the mountain is tough, they could use the gondola as a easier way up. And with all the effort the Iron Lords put into the Iron Temple it would be a stronghold for them. No smart Fallen would try to attack by themselves, even if they were a sniper. They were scavengers so they knew a risk if hey saw one.

thereā€™s nothing to suggest they didnt have jumpships. and our mission was to clear the entire mountain of Fallen, they could have had it so locked down that entire section was unused

How do you know what the Fallen are thinking? Their behavior is erratic, from cautious and survivalistic to zealous and reckless in an attempt to achieve Dreg strength. Thereā€™s no certainty of whether something might have happened.
